Yes, finding balance is key but not to the degree of the tipping point. In a literal sense, your yoga practice is for YOU, so you should be kind to and listen to your body. You will still get the benefits and avoid injury. Figuratively, we all need more work/life balance which is hard to achieve with a “push yourself” mindset. I say this from a perfectionistic perspective, so I struggle with this daily. Remind and rewind is one way to maintain focus on this delicate balancing act, I guess.
P.S. I just purchased my ticket to the Sissy show at NY City Winery, so that made my day!!🙏
This is exactly where I am at present. Last month I completed my brachytherapy after a complete hysterectomy due to my diagnosis of cancer. I so want to get back to where I was before all of this but I have a hard time finding the energy to do so, and the fear of damaging what I have left inside. To push or not to push is the great question.
Yes, the pushing thing. I have learned over the years that it is just as you say, Allison. Yoga is the best place I've found to learn about tuning in to what's needed at any moment. Sometimes to push, sometimes to be still, sometimes to see what happens if I push when I don't feel like it (this never works out too well), sometimes to break out of a wonderful calmness to feel challenged. The body is very wise, and it is where I learn the most real lessons.
Balancing life is rather like practising yoga, knowing how to listen to your body and ease in with your breathing. I haven’t held a shoulder stand and eased down into a complete plough for a couple of years, but I will one day soon. Lovely to hear from you. Hanging on in the UK, longing for spring and return to full health.
The age old dilemma of picking your battles--knowing when to push through and knowing when to just sit with what is. Although I've always hated the phrase "pick your battle"--I am a pacifist at heart and hate the thought of being at war in any way. Maybe just knowing which hill is worth the climb? Which hill will have that epic view and which one will just leave your legs shaky and you out of breath? Balance...so easy to identify when we have it (or when we don't) but so hard to know how to get it.
Finding balance seems like it will be a theme for me this year. Finding it, holding it, understanding it.

nice to hear from you! your post just made me want to go do some yoga! It (everything) really is all about balance, isn't it. Take care.
Balance, what a distant, alien concept, for me. Now that you mention it, it sure bears some thought. As always, good to hear from you. I love you

Yes. That balance that is defined by each individual for his/her moment. I think that'll be a lifetime journey for me
