So much of this post made me feel extra emotional. The heart stone especially.

Years of being a Halloween cat myself I understand how tired it can make one feel. Will follow your updates regarding the new therapy. I hope it brings relief.

Like your reading recommendations. May try Lucinda’s. Curious about her life.

Glad you’re away in Mexico and enjoying the sunshine.

Your momma is beautiful for sure. Loved reading about her in the book Blood. Especially when she was driving ☺️

Thanks for your words today. They always mean so much

xoxo

I watched Daisy Jones & the Six and then read the book. The thing that amazed me about the book is that it's from multiple points of view and yet holds my attention. I don't think I could ever successfully write that way.

Hi Allison, you inspired me today. I was thinking about my Mama, too. I hope you don't mind.

Mother’s Day 2023

My Mama taught school. Unfortunately for me, this meant teachers could do no wrong. I argued they were spread along the bell curve, some good, some bad, and most average, but never convinced her.

Unfortunately for her, my dad insisted she stop teaching after she had kids. But she was shrewd and came up with a two-phase workaround. Until the mid-70s, the protocol for a pregnant teacher was to step down once she “started showing.” Mama took this as an opportunity, but only for high school classes. Once there may have been an untimely divorce, but I digress.

She planned to start back teaching once her youngest graduated high school. “As soon as your brother Charlie (pronounced Cha Lee) graduates, I’m teaching history at Bainbridge High.” Unfortunately for everyone, she died before she could start.

Fortunately, though, for years after she died, strangers often approached with “Aren’t you Joan (pronounced Joe Ann) Livingston’s son?” and remembered her fondly. I do, too.

It’s been fifty years, and I’m better now.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mama.

Allison,

I love Shelby and yourself too much to comment on this post but for the never ending Grace you exude. Your Mama is so, so proud of you and she shines through in so many ways especially JH because you are so open to it and her!

She WAS THERE in NYC at the Winery that first night of the tour. When you two hit Side By Side and held each other, I told you, I felt her there and even singing with you like she would be, even now if she could.

Mother's Day, every year, I hurt for you both. I always will.

Nothing but mad love and respect to one of the most incredibly devoted Mamas I have ever known, albeit from afar.

John Henry was so blessed to pick you!

Dear Allison. My overactive mind, which often keeps me from healing sleep I sorely need, was filled with philosophical words about the amygdala. However, I decided perhaps I was being too pretentious this morning. So maybe this simple poem will answer any concerns you may have about love and being loved. I pray that the Lord gives you nothing but good days.

The Beatles were wrong when they sang:

"And in the end

The love you take

Is equal to the love you make."

Because:

"The truth in life is:

The love you get

may never equal

the love you give.

But you must never

cease to love. - MRVERITAS.SUBSTACK.COM

Daisy Jones (the book) was actually designed by my Susan (interior, not the cover)--We watched and loved (LOVED) the music. Storyline: predictable but I didn’t care. I was driven crazy by incorrect time stamps (late model guitars showing up way too early, yadda yadda) and anchors but still: we could not stop watching it. Riley Keough was phenomenal and because I’m slow on the uptake said “Hey, she looks so much like Elvis....” 🙄

Love your post--everything about it, as always. Your mother: what a stunning woman, and she is most certainly looking down and KVELLING ❤️
