I'm so excited for you and your new job. As a former long time bookseller, I too love Silas House. Such an incredible human. As for breakfast, a warm slice of banana nut bread with a schmear of cream cheese is just about as good as it gets. I hope your new adventure brings you loads of joy. ❤️
I love homemade yogurt (madzoon in Armenian...pronounced with a long a) for breakfast with muesli and berries. I've been slowly reading Simone Weil's book, Waiting For God. I highly recommend it. I read Falling Upward three years ago, and it's time to revisit that gem of a book.
So thrilled to read about your new position at the CMHOF & Museum Allison! There's just no place like it, and what an asset to have you. Congratulations and enjoy every minute.
Hope your new job brings you much satisfaction and joy. They’re lucky to have you! Are you in the “office” every day or just a few days a week? I would love to hear more about your editing and writing responsibilities there.
My favorite breakfast is banana pancakes with oat flour topped with plain yogurt and blueberries. I thought about watching Baby Reindeer but having second thoughts after your description. It will take something special on Netflix to top Ripley in my opinion.
Eehhh. Baby Reindeer creeped me out a bit. At my sis’s urging, I’m trying to “escape” more into murder/ thriller true crime stuff, instead of more heady television, but it has the opposite effect on me. Insomnia. I binged it to see if it would stick, and have to say it’s not on my “recommend” list.
Breakfast for me is a small slice of toasted sourdough from a local bakery slathered with Greek honey. I order it as a splurge from a supplier and it’s worth every dime. A bowl of Bob’s Red Mill muesli with sliced apple and non dairy milk topped with yogurt - Greek of course ;)
Coffee, then herb teas grown and processed locally.
Trust me, the rest of my day is not nearly that “romantic” ;)
I am also a social introvert. Writing from home has been a challenge!
This newsletter continues to be a highlight of the week for me and I think it’s because I both feel like I’m conversing with somebody who gets me and also somebody I can learn from. Like I’m seen and also pushed to grow. Thanks, Allison 💖 congrats on the new job!
Thank you, as always. The Wisdom Letter hit close to home. And I finished the Signs book, and it took me a long time to ask for a specific sign from my mother. I finally chose an Orchid that would be our sign, last week. We always harmonized on that old song I Overlooked An Orchid, so I chose that. I cried when I saw the picture of your Orchids. And love your other two pictures of favorites, as well. I'm trying to cut back on breakfast, omelette, potatoes and such, as I really am in dire need of losing weight, or I'll hide away forever. So, my new plan is a hard boiled egg and toast, with a fruit choice. It will be a major change. Also love the new word, orisen, thank you. Allison, I am so proud of you taking this job. It's a wonderful position in a deep rooted beauty of songs. Working in this world is a challenge at times, yet, what an honor. And to bring home that check, is wonderful. Much love!
Leftovers for breakfast! Of course that assumes there's something in the fridge from an earlier meal. My vegetarian husband enjoys cooking dinner but starts the process too late for me. I never complain, as I know that means a great and typically healthy meal early the following day. I'll eat ANY leftover for breakfast, as I have an ironclad gut (grateful for that). Fallback position is local yogurt from Seven Stars (plain) with just about anything that is reasonable to throw on top—black beans and sliced avocado even!
Love the business card. As a freelance writer/editor in the medical/health care field, I have a twinge of envy. It's hard to get inspired writing about medical problems!

Congratulations on the start of this new chapter!
Excited for you at your new job❤️📝🎸🎹
My first encounter with Silas House had me wondering how I had not been familiar with him until last year!
He was doing some panel talks and presentations at AmericanaFest, some of which brought me to tears.
I was coming down from my hotel room and he got in the elevator with his dog, both dressed so sharply ;). What a warm and wonderful human being he is.
I always look forward to your writing, Allison, and I am never disappointed.

Also a regular consumer of granola and Greek yogurt, with berries when in season and a banana if no berries.
Baby Reindeer is certainly dark, but it’s also a brave work of art.
Congratulations on it ALL…
To self isolate the treasure that is you is a crime against humanity… We need more yous out and about… ♥️
