First and foremost, I’m so stoked for Queen Shelby on her new record and much deserved achievement award. She is an artist in the purest sense of the word. You’re both completely authentic, which is a quality I most admire.

Movie recommendations from last year (if you haven’t seen them): Anatomy of a Fall and The Teacher’s Lounge. Both riveting and extremely thought-provoking.

Feckless and reckless sounds like a comedy duo, but are anything but laughable if you’re either one!

Serenely perfect.

Shelby’s record is so damn good—she deserves all the honors in the world. Yesterday I was doing a phone bank for the Harris-Walz ticket with some lovely young people just out of college. In between calls we started talking about music and they were surprised that someone who looks like their grandmas was so knowledgeable about current music. I started talking about Shelby and Consequences of the Crown—they’d never heard of her, poor things, but now they have. They pulled it up on Spotify and started listening to it right then and there! I had to leave, but maybe next week I’ll get to find out what they thought.

It’s interesting that the theme “loneliness” seems to be cropping up everywhere at the moment. A journalist that I follow has been looking at in the context of “only children”. I wasn’t an only child but came 10 years after my nearest sibling. I don’t think I was lonely as a child. Actually I was quite glad to have my brothers and sisters out of the way.

One of my favourite artists, Aussie, Emily Barker has a track called “Loneliness” on her new album “Fragile As Humans” which is quite an introspective album which she recorded at the time she was moving back to Australian from the UK.

Actually, i directly, Emily is responsible for me discovering you! She supported Shelby at a festival a few years ago and shared what a great artist she was so, I investigated and became a great fan of your sister and later discovered you through the Not Dark Yet album. It’s a small world isn’t it?

You might try "hearts beat loud" with Nick Offerman from a few years ago. A dad tries to start a band with his daughter -- but there are wonderful depths and layers. And a Jeff Tweedy cameo!

Hi Allison

Your recent writings have taken on a different feeling to me. In the very nicest way. It feels like a soft breeze coming through the open windows. It flows with gentleness and thoughtfulness. I always appreciate the beauty in your writing.

There is something to be said for quietness. And a routine. Both very calming to me. Not in a hurry to do anything but just be. No running with the masses, or trying to prove anything. Accepting myself and finding joy coming back to me. You’ve helped so much.

Something I find interesting is that you have The Red Book on your bookshelf.

And your interest in Jung. You have a remarkable mind. I love smart people.

Oh, I also wanted to mention the Couture collection you shared last week. Wow, that was really special. The clothes were almost life like. Kinda haunting, but beautiful. Bless the creative folks in the world.

All of your words were close to my heart today.

Thank you for sharing this Sunday. I was thinking, maybe Scout is a character in a children’s book? & her reindeer??

Cheering for Shelby’s success.

Like your walk to work music.

xo

I watched a documentary on George Washington that was great. But no movies.

I love the poem! I also love iced coffee. I used to get it from McDonald’s, yes McDonald’s, and they couldn’t believe I wanted it without any sweetness!

Thank you for the nice writing!

I can relate on the impulsivity. I'm a sweet, good-natured person, but if people mess, I tend to react very quickly and often too harshly. I remember one time, in my dorm at college, this girl asked me, "Do you have an off switch?" I gestured at my crotch and said, "Twist here." I then got beaned in the head with a scented candle.

I'm, uh, properly medicated now, so this sort of thing doesn't really happen anymore. Keeping that devil way doen in the hole.

Yesterday, one of the panelists at the National Book Festival was Peng Shepherd. I turned to my date and said, "would you be upset if I asked if Peng is short for penguin?"

It’s not a movie but we really enjoyed the 3 season series Outlaws. It was on Netflix or Prime. I think BBC produced it. Clever writing, great casting and endearing characters.

Just rewatched Poor Things. It's a spectacular film, and Emma Stone is a revelation. ❤️

Hey Allison — You might try Sometimes I Think About Dying starring Daisy Ridley - it’s a galaxy far, far away from her Star Wars role. Secondly - it seems Shelby’s album is not out on CD. I bought LPs from my college days up until CDs came appeared. I’m done with LPs. If no CDs, what’s the best way to download an album so that the artist - SL in this case - profits the most from it?

As a fellow alien, I strongly recommend Poor Things. Also quite beautiful is last year Miyazaki film, The Boy and The Heron. (If you have MAX, they have all of his films.)

Allison, I appreciate your vulnerability and ability to share what you are working through. The trauma is the thorn in the side, the thing that is so haunting. You have to be experiencing a lot of healing, even though you may not feel it every day. Your writings are inspiring. You may laugh, but the recent Twister movie is a lot of fun. The female lead played Don Draper's daughter in Mad Men, and she is a good actress. The male lead played the lead in Hit Man that is on Netflix. Light stuff but entertaining.

Hey Allison, I recommend "Jules". It is on Showtime. It's about an alien crash landing in an elderly man's backyard, and the lengths he and two lady friends go to to safe guard him from intrusion. It is not a comedy. It is touching and poignant, and about lessons that can be learned at any age. Hell, it made me a little weepy.
