Poor you! I remember once, when I lived in Portland, Maine, being delayed in Detroit and then again in Newark. My flight to Portland was diverted to Boston! I had run into a neighbour in Newark, taking the same flight home so we rented a car at Logan and all they had was a Lincoln Town Car. We made it through a blizzard to Portland and I finally got home at ten minutes before 4am.

At times like that that you really need to have angels watching over you. A car spun in front of us on I-95 and missed us by inches. I really felt like someone was watching over us.

So glad you made it back safely to a snowy Nashville!

I flew to Tucson last month for a hoof trimming clinic with David Landreville who is a big fan of Hayes. I had my ballcap on with Hayes name on it and David lit up like a christmas tree when he saw it 😊 He’s a huge fan!

Anyways, reading what you wrote about driving struck a cord with me. I’m still trying to process my experience when i got into my rental car at the airport in Tucson. It was raining and it was dark, and i was ALONE in a strange place and for the first time in my life i was terrified of being alone, like trying to drive this car 20 minutes to an airbnb was utterly the worst experience. It was so dark and i could barely see cause of the rain and your in the middle of nowhere! Where had I gone?! The independent fearless person i’ve always been 😢 The whole experience has me thinking it’s deeper than i might understand. I know you have written about emdr and it has me intrigued. We live in the same area, can you suggest a place to go for this type of therapy? Not sure if it’s an age thing or the fact that i feel so scared to go anywhere anymore cause the world just feels different.

Thanx for sharing your story Allison, i’m glad you made it home safe.

Blessed be! And welcome home! I was praying for you, too - I’ve been on the road alone late at night trying to get home and I know that feeling. It might be material for a song...

I remember driving alone on scary roads alone at 25 years old, 4AM leaving Arkansas. I couldn't relax until I get off of I-40 East and well on my way to 85 toward Atlanta. This too... you are almost in coziness and warmth!

Allison: I am glad that you made it safely back home. I am thinking of opening a winter driving boot camp for folks from below the Mason Dixon line up here in Michigan. Due to global warming, the atmospheric jet stream is no longer as effective in keeping these polar vortex's from slipping further south. Many stories are told of y'all's life becoming an existential crisis whenever there is 3 or 4 inches of snow, a daily reality up here. So I think I've got a winner of an idea. And I can only imagine the cursing of my name from those of you who may think I'm serious. I'm just glad that you're home safe. Precious cargo

The problem with winter driving in the South is that, usually:

1. First it rains or sleets, then it freezes;

2. then there might be a few inches of snow on top of that;

3. there are no city salt trucks or snow plows that get out there and keep the roads clear; and

4. It’s often not flat, and driving on icy hills is a recipe for disaster above or below the Mason Dixon line.

At least that was my experience of 20 years of driving in Nashville, before I moved back where my mad snow driving skillz still do me some good.

But it’s nice of you to offer!😊

Lol. Thank you for having a sense of humor. I'm from Detroit and us Yankees get a kick out of when the South gets 1/2" of snow everything closes down. Of course we have salt trucks, we have our whole lives to practice and we aren't built on mountain outcrops. I must say that the recording studios in Muscke Shoals Alabama are still closed and I have to wonder how much snow they've gotten. In the North 4' of snow would be mostly cleaned up in 2 days. Oh well. The South has everything else so we have to have something up here to hang our hat on
