"Be the love of your life." I saw that on Instagram today. It immediately grabbed me. I'm working on self-love. I find the more I stop judging myself and start loving myself, the more I stop judging others. I can love others more the more I love myself.
Happy Valentines Day to you Allison. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again...You meditations are very thought provoking. I was thinking about love earlier. Like you say there are so many kinds and I think we need all of those kinds. Love always makes me think about my late parents. Shortly after my mum died, I had an argument with my dad in kitchen. I was missing the affection of my mum. When I went to bed and thought about, I realized that my father loved me but he couldn’t show it in the same way as my mum did. In later years, my father mellowed and lost that typically British stiffness. We started to hug each other when we met. Very un-British. I think the one thing I can say about love is that it has to be expressed. It can’t help it...just like a flower it has to bloom. So the many different types of love you talked about have to express themselves. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts
It always takes me a few minutes before I comment on your column to fully absorb what I’ve read… it makes me think … I feel and have experienced, all you wrote today
I don’t believe I’ve given understanding enough thought or practice
It is love
Let me do better
Thank you Allison
I love the cards with hearts you’ve painted… beautiful ❤️
Allison: Your words struck a special place in my heart on this lonely Valentines Day without my "baby-girl," who died of insidious cancer almost two years ago. We were married for 56 years, almost literally growing up together. I wrote the following poem to her, based on why she said she loves me, and has always considered me to be her best friend:
"Why do you love me so much," I asked her? "You know I am dangerous!"
"I love you the more for it," she replied.
"Yes, you are dangerous."
"Perhaps even "crazy."
"You can be arrogant."
"You can be too self-assured at times."
"You can be aggressive."
"You can be ostentatious."
"You can be overbearing and a bit egotistic."
"But you will never let anybody hurt me without retribution."
"I also know that you respect and love me so much
that you will fight to the death for me!"
"And you will kill to protect me and our children."
"You are also a good provider. A generous man."
"You are a passionate lover."
"And a caring father to our children"
"What more can any woman expect from her man?"
"It is not the dying that makes me so sad."
"Its now much I'm going to miss you." - Mr. Veritas
3/5/23: I scroll back through previous posts and when I stop and click on one it’s my message for the day and it’s always perfect for what I’m feeling on that day. It’s like my wisdom cards I keep in my drawer that I turn over each day. Today’s piece of wisdom pertains to love and understanding. Understanding is love’s other name. Beautiful quote by Thich Nhat Hanh.
I also love your paragraph:
Do we call people to our lives so that we can ultimately begin to understand ourselves through trying to understand them? I believe we have people pass through our lives and teach us or mirror us whether we’ve known them for 2 minutes, 2 hours, 2 months, 2 years or a lifetime. I love that we are always learning from those relationships.

I love your posts. That's the think about love. It's never one still thing. And I know know what an "ouroborous" is :)
