My wife and I sat in front of a fire last night, unplugged and listened to Linda Ronstadt’s “What’s New” album. It’s great to be in the moment and have music as a focus.
So lovely. Sorry about that knee. Prayers lifted for complete and swift healing. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We are oh so thankful for you. Love and peace for you and yours.
Yes, yes, and yes regarding your issues with giving yourself permission to rest. I struggle with the same affliction, and its difficult to manage when you need to feel productive 24/7. My “hamster wheel” is wearing out! I’ve also been dealing with chronic pain for a few months, and it’s definitely a royal pain in the zone of challenges. Unplugging from social media for music and reading is admirable, and you’ve made some good choices.
The “Stardust” reference stopped me in my tracks. I’m thinking back to when the album came out and I would close my eyes, even in the dark, to those songs and just soak them in. I’m almost 40 years older and still strangely in love with that music as I (strangely) was then.
when i read your writings I feel transported, my late husband of nearly 6 years brought my attention to you, somehow, you speak to me as you do to so many others, your beauty , your art, your music, you are like an old friend from high school, that you knew would accomplish amazing things! You are an extraordinary person, I wish I could contribute monetarily to you, but, my situation, having literally lost it all when my husband died suddenly in an accident, I live with my parents now helping to take care of them, and they take care of me, Blessings do occur from horrible events. I had 31 years with my late husband, a beautiful daughter, who went to Belmont, and lives in Nashville with her lovely husband and my 2 grandsons. We learn more each day to be better! Thank you for what you do and sharing yourself with us, it means so much! Best wishes always, Stephanie

I love you. Thank you for sharing. Your favorite young man appears to be quite a dude.
Thank you for Jesmyn Ward. I had no idea. Let Us Descend is going to stay with me for a long, long time.
Thank you for stating Willie’s album cover was Suzanna Clark’s design. I did not know that!
Aware Emmylou’s Quarter Moon cover was hers.
Love them both.
I love your writings and especially look forward to your Sunday Lists.
Have been a fan of your creativity for several years.

Magnificent post as always.
Were you lucky enough to know Susanna Clark? Described by Rodney as “the most near perfect
woman I’d ever seen”. Emmy’s Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town also written and illustrated by
her. Yet she’s not known as a writer.
You, of course, are up there with the best of them.
Alex

The message I keep getting from a variety of sources--my therapist, a speaker at my church, books, and now your post--is to embrace the moment.
I relate to dissociating from pain. It is indeed a process to stop. Body scan meditations help.
