Would it be inappropriate if I said here that my takeaway from this post is to comment on your yoga picture, which is to say that you have a belly like Charles Atlas. Not saying that you're mannish but that is pretty impressive.
Nice seems a little more passive and maybe less sincere than being kind. Being pleasant and agreeable doesn’t demonstrate the same level of generosity and empathy towards others. The word “nice” tends to be overused, and kindness its purest form is harder to achieve.
P.S. Does that clothes shaver help at all with pet hair? That would be nice!!!
Your Sunday posts are filled with so many good things. I enjoy the pictures you share. Your hair looks GREAT in the airplane selfie with Hayes. And girl, you are rockin the abs. I realize how much work that takes to get that definition. Good job 💪
Your opening paragraphs never fail to give me pause... had to lookup Exaggerated Dynamism. Will ponder all. Also read some about Marie-Louise von Franz. Evidently I’ve been meditating through active imagination and didn’t know it. I wondered why it always feels so comforting. ( have been made of before for same) ☺️
Love Truman Capote and will check it out. Remember his book Miriam. First one I read.
Glad you’re going back to work on your music!!
Nice/Kindness:
To me nice is sending a thank you card.
Kindness is handing a soft bunny to someone who is sad to hold. 🐰
Nice & Kind is Hayes sending you flowers with love & remembrance re your parents, while he was rafting down the Colorado river and couldn’t be with you.
I hope you feel lots better soon. And you & JH have enjoy this Sunday afternoon together.
Being nice is a self-centered behavior and being kind is an other-centered behavior. I suppose being nice benefits oneself while being kind benefits the recipient of said kindness. OMG, Dracula sneeze. I love it! ❤️
In our cystic fibrosis community we are all accustomed to Dracula sneezing and coughing to avoid spreading upper respiratory infections. We also avoid shaking hands but shake pinkies or bump elbows instead. That’s kindness too I think. So is masking in public when you know you have a bug that you don’t want to share. 😊
Thanks, again, for your Sunday List. As always, I'm so glad you share. You touch on things that no one talks about, and it's wonderful to hear. Love the coat, looks great. My thoughts on being nice/kind had me reflecting on what I think was kindness most of my life, because I ended up hurt by others, by being openly kind, sometimes. Although, I admit, I so wanted to be liked, too. Love your pictures and your art. I'm looking forward to hearing Saint Seven. I'm similar with subscribing and keeping up with it all, loving to read, like you do. And also, cooking.... I may not want to shop and will eat peanut butter on a toasted English Muffin, and love my apple every day, as well. Honey Crisp, being my favorite. Happy Sunday
The moment we awaken to know that we are lost...to realize , as Jung says that the ego is not master of the house, then we have begun the journey. Helen Luke on pg 41 in Seven Thousand Ways to Listen , Mark Nepo
Yes, a bit lost, yet I’m not. My mind does not have the answers and spirit has refused to just show me..possibly because I think I know...ego, and I don’t.
I’m really enjoying these community discussions on spiritual matters.
ahhh. the Sunday List that is my Monday light :) I too am slow-reading the Nepo book. When I slow read, it reminds me of being in an intriguing college class that I didn't want to end. Philosophy, Ethics, Faulkner, and Steinbeck. I want to chew slowly on everything written and then talk about it with others who get it.
I wish I wasn't guilty of the unread New Yorkers, but ugh.. maybe I can try again. It's wonderful reading, but I still stack them in the "someday" pile.
Isn't the CM Hall of Fame wonderful? My first job in high school was giving directions to tourists. (Nowhere near the incredible place it is now). I still get a flush in my face when I walk in, seeing people from all over the world in Nashville.
You are an inspiration to me. JB

I take it in the spirit I think it was intended.
It is all good. Thank you
I have also been thinking about the difference between being nice and being kind. I tell myself that I wasn't put on earth to be nice but to be kind.

It does. You know I have plenty of pet hair around my house. And I hate lint etc. give it a go.

Being nice is giving the begger a quarter.
Kindness is sharing a meal with the beggar.
The Quakers have a saying that I love - ‘Let your life speak.’ And that speaks to me of kindness which is impactful and lasting.
