Interesting that you mentioned The Buena Vista Social Club. A new adaptation is being produced which opens later this month at The Atlantic Theatre Company in NYC, with choreography by Justin Peck and Patricia Delgado. I’m planning to see it soon!
So many good things to read in your post today! And you always share the coolest things... I love it as much as I love chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce!
I worry that I write too much but I like to recognize the things you share. I always enjoy them. First, very neat hobby you’re exploring. Embossing. Will look forward to see how that comes along.
The pictures you shared are so nice. I like to take a good moment to look closely at your paintings . The detail is always so interesting to me. This time I noticed the woman’s slippers & the fine brush work with the moon. Also the cute blue design on Hayes’ cheek ☺️.
Thanks for the tip about taking a picture between 2 mirrors. Great pic btw. You wear hats well.
Yes, it’s an honor to love someone. And I’ve messed up more times than I can count. Recognizing it is progress. Will continue to do our best.
Thank you Allison for a wonderful Sunday post. Makes me feel good to read your words. I always appreciate the thought you put in to it. Enjoy your week 🦌🌙
I will be happy to recommend " I Dream He Talks to Me". I've already bought 4 copies for friends and caregivers. This book is a must read for those with loved ones on the spectrum of autism. Face it, how many of us are not affected by a loved one or relative with autism these days? It is so common; yet, for those trying to raise a child with autism it feels isolating and overwhelming.
Allison's book brings relief to families who feel alone and go from crisis to crisis. Our son is 26, non-verbal, but we lived and still do the constant worrying and same things she has experienced. The chapter "This Part is the Worst Part" I read it to my husband tonight because our son is now dealing with a rotted molar and 2 wisdom teeth in need of pulling a.s.a.p. Ear infections, dental infections and everything else is a huge ordeal when people with autism cannot communicate in words for the pain they feel.
Please folks, if you have a family member or know a good friend who has a child with autism, please buy this book for them. This book is about reality and not stupid, fraudulent cures or on proven claims made by those without using the scientific method.
Allison, what you wrote about taking the ego out of love reminds me of one of my favorite Sharon Olds quotes:
“...maybe that's something that we become more able to see as we get older—or I may be a late bloomer—that love looks outward, toward the other. What we love most truly isn't our own condition (as parent, or child, or partner, or friend) of being in love, but the actual other people, with their mysterious intransigent natures.”
Your hat is fetchin’🌸
That picture of Allison wearing the very cool hat reminds me of Kathryn Hepburn in similar overcoat/hat
