Song
Till the Flame Turns Blue by The Paper Kites. I stumbled across this single the other day and I’ve probably listened to it 7 or 8 times since. The yearning yet still understated vocal stops me in my tracks. It’s so romantic, soulful, and beautiful. Perfect for expressing spring fever feelings.
I watched
Beef on Netflix.
People are complicated and hung up, and Beef isn’t afraid to expose us. This show is fascinating and captures so well how unacknowledged feelings turn into isms and how those isms play out into behaviors that butterfly effect themselves in surprising ways. I’m only two episodes in and like it very much.
Book
Well, I was about halfway through Don’t Believe Everything You Think, by Joseph Nguyen, but I left it on a plane last Friday. I was enjoying it, so I’ll replace it and continue on. More soon.
Reading of the Week:
God’s greatness is a gift that is offered me, and it serves Him when I receive it. I have latent power that is mine to claim. I often lack faith in what exists within me because I lack faith in who exists within me.

Thing
Boats.
I went along for the ride on a fishing trip this morning. Boats were a big thing in my childhood due to my father’s love of them, fishing, and the water and outdoors in general, but I haven’t spent much of my life on the water since he’s been gone. I felt a need to try to right that this morning, as it occurred to me that being on a boat is a really good way to make yourself be still. If you don’t want to get wet, you have to sit down. And why, when you reach quiet, would you really want to talk? I didn’t want to. I just wanted to be there, spying on the natural world, feeling very small, forgetting that my voice ever wants to be heard, and connecting with the spirits, especially my own.
Favorite Photo I Took This Week
Me. This morning. Port Aransas, Texas.
Prayer
Thank you, Great Spirit, for showing me what I need to see.
Intention for the week to come
May I meet others with love and curiosity instead of expectation.
Something I’m thinking about
Healthy Withdrawal.
How much solitude can a person seek without becoming isolated?
A prayer for myself this morning: May I gracefully dance between the practice of listening to myself and the art of participating in the world around me.
Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. — Buddha
Habit
Noticing.
Taking time to see detail. Taking time to notice how I do things. Taking time to develop more patience so noticing is possible.
Look at all of these inspiring colors.
Wish
That I make progress this week. That you do too.
That you will forward this to one person and that person becomes a subscriber too.
Have a wonderful, peaceful, joyous week. And thank you for supporting my work here at The Autotelic.
Lots of love,
Allison
"How much solitude can a person seek without becoming isolated?" SUCH an important question. A fine line. There's a sheer scrim between solitude and isolation, and it's so easy to inadvertently step into the latter while seeking the former. I try and balance this all the time. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't, and I always have to remind myself to be kind to myself when it happens. Also, Port Aransas looks gorgeous. x
Love The Paper Kites new tune. For those unfamiliar with them, They have a few EPS release around 2010 and 11 but their albums On the Train Ride Home and On The Corner where you Live are really good. Allison, always enjoy hearing your outlook on life. It's always uplifting so if someone is a little down when they come to your site, they'll likely leave feeling a lot better - what better thing to do for another person.
