I'm always looking to condense my short stories to maximize the number of potential markets I can submit to. I've cut almost 20% from my first draft on my WIP. (Some of this is tendency to write "adjective soup" on the first pass. One powerful adjective is stronger than two or three.)
I bet you were tempted to adopt that little hotel kitty as a playmate for Sam. Willie is looking as dapper as ever. I’m a little stuck on the mouth tape idea, but good if it’s working for you. It’s quite a stark contrast between the snow on the East coast and the fires on the West coast. Mother Nature is casting a spell once again!
Allison, those moments of silence, be they accidental or intentional do almost always speak. Great post. I wanted to introduce you to a song my GF in Australia did (She's a flugel horn/pianist/ writer) . She speaks of those gifted moments behind what many ignore. And I have a keen fondness in anything in 7/8 time that doesn't feel like 7/8. Elizabeth Geyer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0v4AGw1ob6k
I did a brief stint at the CMHOF (graphic design freelancer at the tjme) in the early 2000s & it’s such a gift to see “how the sausage is made.” It’s one of my favorite places in town & Ive taken quite a few folks on their inaugural trips there when I’ve discovered they’ve not been. Last time, the occasion to see the “Burrito suits” reunited. What a gift to stand before them.
Anyway, I’m the weirdo who not only reads every caption in museums, but often photographs the words to recall what I’ve viewed. so your word work matters, no matter if it’s 150 or 1500 of them.
Thank you, Allison. I love "The smaller I get, the more comfortable I am in the world." I'm older and retired, and it's taken me longer to get there, yet this is so true. You look more relaxed and at peace. Blessings and love to you!
Allison, I always look forward to your posts, a regular source of enlightenment for me. Been following you since I first saw you in that Montana barn and it's been a pleasure following you since as you've gotten better and better (not just smaller!) Your 2017 performance with Shelby in Cambridge was one of the best things I've seen in 50+ years of concerts, or life for that matter. I find reading your self-reflections and about your personal evolution helpful to me, since as a guy I probably don't do enough of that. Last thing, another singer/songwriter from the South recently released an emotionally and musically transcendent album you might like: Quiet in a World Full of Noise, by Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn.
Writing just 150 words is hard -- every one has to be perfect. But it's also a fun puzzle of how few words you can use to express a thought.

Love your Sunday lists, Allison! Always thought-provoking and inspiring.

Oh for some reason I would LOVE to hear Tom Waits cover it. Contrast ya know
"In the crest of a wave..." So many of the answers I seek or have sought are in there...JB

You are so beautiful inside and out.

Hi. Still a sleep tech. I don't think taping your mouth shut for sleeping is weird. Starting to see it more and more.
You may be moving toward smalldom but you loom large to us. Carry on
