Hayes Carll. Yes, he’s my husband and I’m partial, but I have to brag a little. This business of show that we are in is shallow, cut-throat, and all-in-all, an insane way to live. It’s a gamble to try to make it the way you make your living — most folks just can’t sustain it for that long. Good thing Hayes is indeed a gambler through and through. But he’s a good one. I’m super proud of his body of work and the way he approaches his career. He’s out on the road right now and doing amazing shows. Catch one, if you can get a ticket.

Because it’s a mood and a vibe. And that’s one of the ways I depend on music — to set the tone for life. I’m on the road with Hayes for a few days and we take a bluetooth speaker whereever we go. It doesn’t make it home, but it can take the edge off of a hotel room. Anyway, I dig this tune. I also feel like I’m learning something about making records when I listen to it — it’s so out of my wheelhouse, but I wish it weren’t.

I started watching The Empress last night. Oh my, oh yes, I like it so far. I will report back.
Book
No new ones since last week. I’m trying not to buy as many books as I used to in advance, which is hard. I not only love what’s in them, I love them as objects.
Thing
My weighted blanket. My sister gave me a really nice one with a linen cover a few years ago, and it stays at the foot of my bed. I’ve been relying on it lately to help me get to sleep, so it’s no longer at the foot of the bed. And I’m thankful that the 3am wake up thing has passed again, for the moment.

Habit
Using the rinse water as paint for the first layer of these (in progress) mandala tributes. This tiny receptacle that goes in my travel watercolor kit was shimmery — I couldn’t resist. I’m going to set up a Shopify store soon — right now I’m having fun creating them. I think you’re going to love them.
