Quote
If the world doesn’t learn this kind of humility, what we’re calling beginner’s mind, I think we’re in trouble. And we’re seeing it at the highest levels—the absolute arrogance of “knowing” and of being convinced we do know and no one else knows like we know —Richard Rohr
Song
Flowers by Miley Cyrus
John Henry’s teacher sends a note by email at the end of every school day so we can keep up with what’s happening on all fronts. Included in a report last week was a note about how much he likes this song, so I’ve been listening to it on repeat.
I watched
We watched the entire first season of The Empress. All I can say is, I can’t wait for season two. It’s addictive!
Book
I just bought an armload of new books I’m excited about, and I’m almost finished with the Rick Rubin book. I’ve read it slowly — it’s one to savor. It almost feels like an instructional manual of a sort — or the process of a discoverer or cartographer drawing a map. It’s a lovely book and shouldn’t be limited to an audience of so-called creative people. I agree with Rubin — being creative is a way of being. I’m so glad he wrote this book.
I also read this during my library time this morning.
Thing
These watercolors.
They do this:
Favorite Photo I Took This Week
This is a homemade sourdough english muffin that my Aunt Jane made and toasted for me last Wednesday morning. A little butter and a few slices of extra sharp cheese and I’m in breakfast heaven.
Wish
That the cultural movement toward healing trauma will continue to grow.
That you will forward this to one person and that person becomes a subscriber too.
Prayer
Thank you, Great Spirit, for showing me what I need to see.
Intention for the week to come
May I be mindful with my words and true to my highest intentions. May I be humble enough to ask for forgiveness when I am neither of those things.
Something I’m thinking about
Humility. As in not thinking less of yourself, but as in thinking of yourself less.
Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. — Buddha
Habit
Lately, it’s been reminding myself that it’s okay to not always be entrenched in my habits. It was a week of travel, which can throw even the most disciplined person off their game a little. I tend to maintain it all pretty well regardless of location, but being able to be flexible and not only allow but welcome what is out of the ordinary is a kind of freedom I’d like to attain.
Have a wonderful, peaceful, joyous week.
Lots of love,
Allison

"Humility. As in not thinking less of yourself, but as in thinking of yourself less." Yes! That's it right there.
