* This shall be the first and 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 time that "Allison Moorer" and "man-repelling" appear in the same statement. Pffft. Not possible, total malarkey.
* I'll have to get on Leon Bridges - don't think he had been on my radar, which encompasses everything you could imagine. Speaking of: a few weeks back I dropped a link in the comments here to a powerful track by the amazing Staceyann Chin, on Meshell Ndgeocello's latest. Hopefully SOMEone, anyone listened and was blown away.
* McClister. His work is iconic and so individual. The second I saw the cover shot on Hayes' album I knew I didn't need to check the credits...I said out loud "Yeah, that's a McClister". He's a giant.
I’m loving the “Leon” album, too! I felt the Marvin Gaye connection in some of the music, as well. Lyrically, I hear some Johnny Cash with the stories rooted so specifically to place and growing up. Leon Bridges really seems to be hitting his artistic stride with this gorgeous work.
What a BIG honor to be asked to write something for David McClisters book. And then to have it placed in the front of the book is a big deal. It’s because you do channel the sparks of the universe. Think of how many wonderful things you’ve accomplished that JH will have to look back on with pride about his mom. And his Aunt Shelby.
Your writing today felt like the Great Spirit was guiding your hand. It was free and unafraid. It just flowed. With Grace. With truth. With honesty. I’m
living many of those words myself today. May we continue to move forward in all the very best ways.
Look forward to seeing the finished watercolor painting. I’m not sure if that was a lotus flower you were working on, but I love the color.
Goes without saying how great the outfit is you’re wearing. Love the Banana Republic jacket & the sandals. Wow, that’s such a great look. You look good girl. Professional, always with that understated elegance. My personal favorite look.
Nice to see sweet Sam. He’s growing so quickly. Lots of good things & love in your house. Fire in the fireplace, your paintings, your books, your workplace being honored as the only institution to receive the award. Makes me happy for you! It’s easy to cheer for you!
* interesting * why all lower case letters w Yung Pueblo ? I thought that was pretty cool.
I know how wonderful it is to both be present in the body and not dissociate and to not numb emotions. I'm going through EMDR now, and it is helping me heal, as is radical acceptance. Thank God my therapist had me read Tara Brach's book, Radical Acceptance.
I've gotten completely substance free after being dragged into some stuff by my ex, who has a lot of issues.
We met online. Her profile said she'd take care of an orphaned elephant for free. I wrote to her, "orphaned elephants make me sad."
She wrote back, "Hey Mark, how'd that masters in philosophy work put for you? Orphaned elehpants are sad. So are orphaned monkeys and orphaned cockroaches. Life sucks!"
The fella in the photograph with Ali McGraw is Robert Evans, her husband from 1969 to 1973, and former head of Paramount Pictures.
