Quote
But always, to her, red and green cabbages were to be jade and burgundy, chrysoprase and porphyry. Life has no weapons against a woman like that.
Attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer. —Simone Weil
Song
Go Easy, Kid by Monica Martin.
So pretty I can hardly stand it. Ms. Martin is something else. She has a vocal quality that’s one in a billion. And this song — I wish someone had said this to me twenty years ago.
I watched
Hayes and I were at the beach and wanted to laugh. This was perfect for that. He’d never seen it. Then he saw Paul Rudd do the monologue in the mirror. Need I say more?
Book
Still haven’t replaced this. I’ve been catching up on yard work and hanging out with John Henry. I need to borrow my sister’s copy.
Thing
Iced coffee.
If there’s any left in the pot from the morning, sometimes I’ll make one on a summer afternoon. I worked in the yard for several hours yesterday and it was the perfect thing give to me a boost into evening.
Favorite Photo I Took This Week
John Henry. Friday night on the porch. Home.
Prayer
Thank you, Great Spirit, for letting me notice, for letting me be open, for showing me what I need to see.
Intention for the week to come
May I be humble and self-aware.
Something I’m thinking about
Dharma vs. Dogma
Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. — Buddha
Habit
Waiting.
Sometimes it’s good to take a beat. I’m trying to get better at just letting a thing settle.
Then to add to that — and this is super hard — if you must say something after you wait, then say what is right before you say what is wrong.
I set quite a bar for myself, don’t I? It’s okay. My intentions are good.
Wish
That I feel peace this week. That you do too.
That you will forward this to one person and that person becomes a subscriber too.
Have a wonderful, peaceful, joyous week. And thank you for supporting my work here at The Autotelic.
Lots of love,
Allison
