Yes, yes and yes!! I support the idea of your posts exclusively on Substack. That way it will reach people who sincerely have an interest and appreciation for your thoughts and artistry. No trolls, please. Social media is such a conundrum. I'm beginning feel it's a waste of time in many respects, including the self-promotion aspects. Since it's addictive, that's one big warning sign. It's hard to think back to the days before the Internet, but somehow we still had rich, productive lives. I'm grateful for the meaningful connections I've made on social media, but not sure the good outweighs the evil in the long run.
The guy with the toilet seat will get a lot of attention, yes. But it's what, even 15 minutes now? Hardly. Your book will have what's called "the long tail" - it will sit on bookshelves, be loaned out, make its way into Little Free Libraries, be gifted at Christmas. Nobody gives the new mother of a special needs child the gift of a guy on the toilet. But your book will give someone a roadmap who needs one. That's the very special thing about art in book form.
While every single thing you’ve said is true, and social media is looked upon as a bane on our existence (by me, as well), I don’t know where I would have been without YOU and all you gave in the initial year of lockdown. Everything you did, the shows, the art, the words and book, YOU are the number one reason why social media saved me during the pandemic. YOU saved me like no one else. With that being said, I will follow YOU, whatever path YOU choose.
These are wierd times. Covid has been the catylist for what seems like a total rewrite of the algorithm of life. Facebook especially and perhaps Instagram are suddenly under scrutiny for dividing us rather than bring us together. Allison, although I knew of you as Shelby's sister and certain aspects of your life, I never knew how truly talented you were, how beautiful you are and how kind you are and were it not for Youtube and Instagram, I'd probably never know. So there are mixed feelings for sure regarding social media and how to move forward. I hope some of what I've writtenbis relevant. I'm just glad you're here

You are so right, Allison. Social media is essential to anyone seeking to sell their creative endeavors. And you are right about the attention posts receive. If I post a positive uplifting message, it may get one or two likes. But if I post about any kind of tragedy, it gets hundreds of likes. Humans are strange creatures. Here's to staying in our truth while trying to sell a book or song or two. Hugs!
Agreed, but I am “disciplining” myself to use social for connections I otherwise can’t make and share knowledge. I must admit after reading Blood, I have started on a journey of self awareness that I didn’t think was possible AND I wouldn’t have know about your book without social media 😏!

Arrows down. JB
Allison, I will definitely subscribe. Your words have been a balm to my heart during this challenging year. I look forward to reading your new book.

I’m here. I’ll be here, too. Count on it.
Social media has good and bad points. As they say in 12 step groups, take what you like and leave the rest.

I would be one of your likes on the positives as I am a frequent poster…they make me feel good and if make one other person feel good, it’s a win!!
