SUNDAY SELFIE SERIES #76: The superb Jason Weinheimer. Y’all keep telling me I have cool friends as I feature them in this series, and I must agree. This guy is one of the coolest. He’s a musician, producer, songwriter, singer, father, husband, dog lover, awesome studio owner, and terrific friend who happens to have one of the best laughs I’ve ever heard. He can play music AND talk books, and is the kind of guy that makes you feel better just by being in his presence. I love him dearly.
What has humbled you more than anything else?
Parenthood, for damn sure. My wife Indy and I just sent our son to college this fall, and our daughter is in the throes of high school. Getting them this far has been an adventure— fun, frustrating, exciting, and yes, humbling—but it’s ultimately the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.
Do you feel like you’ve gotten a good education?
I went to excellent schools, for the most part, and continued my education through graduate school, but I feel like I am ALWAYS learning important lessons. I mean I was 45 before it dawned on me that the 5 chord in Louie Louie is minor! Experience is the best teacher, and I hope to keep growing and evolving.
Do you believe that forgiveness benefits the forgiver or the transgressor?
I’ve really enjoyed reading all the answers to this question~ and of course I agree with the majority of responses re: benefiting the forgiver, BUT man it sure is nice to be forgiven. Unconditional love is a tremendous force. As Johnathan Rice sings in Good Graces: “I’m forgiven, forgiven-- and it feels SO good.”
What is your proudest accomplishment?
This answer ties directly to question #1. Raising independent, strong-willed, kind, funny, and creative children has been my proudest accomplishment, by far. I continue to be in awe of them.
How would you like to live out your golden years?
This one is easy! Gimme a cabin on a river, a truck that starts every time, and couple of very large dogs. Oh and a J-45 or two on the porch!
I like him as well
