Sunday Selfie Series #72: Mike Meadows.
I first met Mike through my husband, Hayes Carll. Mike is a drummer and exceptional percussionist and has played with Hayes for many years. He’s what I call a good soul and I don’t just hand out that descriptor to everyone.
Mike is a man of many talents and interests. He always seems to have a new layer to reveal — he’s a musician, an inventor, a perpetual student, a producer, a business owner, a magician… but my favorite thing about him is that he’s nice. Nice is one of the greatest things to be in this life.
1. What has humbled you more than anything else?
Realizing the impermanence and insignificance of my life’s endeavors in relation to humanity and time. It’s both humbling and freeing.
2. Do you feel like you’ve gotten a good education?
Two of my greatest joys in life are learning completely new things and diving deeper into subjects I’m passionate about. I’ve been fortunate to have many amazing teachers, mentors, and experiences throughout my life. I’ll undoubtedly continue to seek more out for as long as I’m able. The more I learn, the more I realize just how little I know, and that’s exciting to me.
3. Do you believe forgiveness benefits the forgiver or the transgressor?
I believe its circumstantial. In my experience it can be of benefit to both, but there are often many variables at play.
4. What is your proudest accomplishment?
Discovering that I can be present and find joy and happiness even when life is particularly chaotic or challenging.
5. How would you like to spend your golden years?
Hopefully in the same way I’ve lived my life up until now. Traveling, learning, creating, eating well, and spending time with people I love.
I'm disabled that has humbled me more than anything. When I was first diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's aka the Michael J Fox disease I (at first) thought why.me? I had a thriving business from which I had to retire but I now see it as a gift I learned through living with a disability I am blessed. So many others have it so worse .I !was now able to share my experience strength and hope with others who have it much worse than I. So have a wonderful Sunday
