Allison,
Do you ever get homesick for Alabama even though you live in Nashville? What do you do when feeling homesick?
With love to lower Alabama,
Maggie
Dear Maggie,
Dear Maggie,
Great question. Oddly enough, I don’t really get homesick for Alabama. Though I am deeply connected to the family I have left that resides there, I haven’t felt attached to it outside of that since I left in 1993. I haven’t ever felt the pull to return.
That doesn’t mean I won’t one day. I appreciate all of the ways in which Alabama is beautiful, and when I’m there I get that knowing feeling in my center. But I’ve had to recognize and allow that that knowing feeling isn’t always something I want to let creep up on me. As much as I love and welcome spirits into my life, I’m not that crazy about ghosts. And ghosts are everywhere down there.
I arrived in Tennessee over thirty years ago, so it’s more home to me than anywhere else, and I’ve felt that way for a long time. I sometimes think about what my life would be like if I’d never left Alabama, and of course, we have no way of knowing those things, but I trust that I’ve been guided in the right direction and will continue on the appropriate path. I believe that as much as home is a place, it is also not one at all.
Thank you for your question.
I hope y’all have a fantastic weekend.
PEACE. LOVE.
Allison
