Food is definitely an area where I feel creatively inclined. I can’t always be, because I spend a good portion of my time in the kitchen just trying to anticipate and/or interpret my son’s culinary desires, but I do love to stretch out and create when I have the opportunity.
I am not a fancy cook by any stretch of the imagination, but I know how to whip up a batch of biscuits, a pretty great vinaigrette salad dressing, and throw ingredients together and make them make sense most of the time. I also like to follow recipes when I have time to slow down and learn. Everything I know about cooking, I learned from watching or tasting. I’m so fortunate to come from a line of great cooks – my Mama, my Grandmother, etc. — and they didn’t so much teach me as allow me to hang out in the kitchen with them. I remember making my first meat sauce for spaghetti when I was about ten years old. It was passable — we ate it for supper that night, but I wonder if I’d have let ten-year-old me in my kitchen?

I learned to bake at 10, but didn't do much cooking until my early 20s. 😂
