Do you have any thoughts of putting out new music again? Maybe with your sister? I know you get asked this a million times so now it’s 1,000,001.
One question: Did you ever play with that band again in SHOW? They were so good. The drummer was amazing.
Dear Charles,
Thank you for your questions.
Indeed, I do have thoughts of putting out new music again. I’ve been working pretty steadily since 2022’s Wish For You, which was mostly missed by everyone. And there lies the reason I suspect you sent your question.
I don’t have a record label, which means I am my own label. I’ve been working with Thirty Tigers, a distribution and label services company here in Nashville, since 2016, when they gave my sister and me a budget to make our Not Dark Yet. I released Blood with them in 2019, which I believe is my finest work as a songwriter, singer, and musician. I consider it my punctuation mark for that part of my career. I can’t imagine I could do better at saying all that I had to say about the first half of my life. That certainty gives me peace to let it go.
But that doesn’t mean I’m not making new, exciting music. I mentioned the EP Wish For You, which was inspired by my son John Henry’s melodies. And inspired is the right word — I feel like I channeled that entire suite of songs and Kenny Greenberg musically channeled what I couldn’t bring forth. As an artist, that’s the ultimate. That is the entire point of walking the earth as a person who was made to be open to receive and share. Making art is hard work, but being in the creative flow feels like being oiled from the center of yourself. I live for that feeling. I know I was put here to pursue it.
Kenny and I are now making music as Saint Seven. We both have so many irons in the fire that it’s taking some time to figure out what, where, with whom — what we really need to get it out in the world in today’s music business. Which will be different tomorrow.
I guess that’s a long-winded way of saying I will always make music. It’s an interesting time and in some ways it feels like all bets are off — technology has made the arts crazier than ever. My sister just signed a major label record deal at 55. That’s almost unheard of. But her artistry wins that battle, not the years it’s taken for her to be worn to her essence. I’m so glad the world is slowly waking up to the idea of agelessness — vitality and spirit don’t have numbers.
I did a show with her the other night during which we played I Am Shelby Lynne (which I can’t link because it’s going to be re-released soon so it’s been removed from streaming for the time being) from beginning to end. It was incredible.
As far as official releases, I will let y’all know. Saint Seven is going to happen, and I suspect another record with my sister might too. My deepest musical desire now is to collaborate. I usually have to go off by myself to write lyrics, but otherwise, I like for the process to be as collaborative as possible.
While you wait, don’t forget I’ve made 10 albums and I think all but one of them is on all of the listening platforms. I so appreciate your kind words about my music. As far as the Miss Fortune band goes, I think the last time we played together was recording the live album, Show. The drummer, Paul Griffith, is truly great. I’m pretty sure he’s still at it but he moved out west some time ago.
I hope y’all have a fantastic weekend.
PEACE. LOVE.
Allison

Allison,
I was at that show with Shelby, you, Ashley Monroe, and Kenny Greenberg, celebrating “I Am Shelby Lynne.” It was FANTASTIC!!! I was still flying high from the night 3 hrs later, driving home.
I had brought my entire collections of yours & Shelby’s music….which included LPs/CDs/ 45rpm Records/ CD Singles. There were 92 total for Shelby, and 49 of yours…Some of which were duplicates. I just wanted to show you both how much it was appreciated, and to celebrate the celebration of “I Am Shelby Lynne.”
Looking forward to more music, art, and books from you and Shelby!!!
Btw Y’all Looked AMAZING!!!
