Hello all the way from Australia!
I am so inspired by your music, your books and your wonderful view and perspective on life in all it's glory, wonder, and at times sadness and challenges.
My question is this- do you have any vices? I am trying to rid myself of a few, as I feel they are a block- to creativity, and my true feelings perhaps. I want to be the best person I can be for my daughter, but I feel life to be exhausting and overwhelming, and dampening them seems the only way to survive.
Love to hear your thoughts, and
Thank you for being here.

Hi Anais.
Thank you for this interesting question.
Now, I was initially going to say yes, of course I have a vice or two. But I thought I’d look up the word and make sure I knew exactly what it meant.
I didn’t.
A vice, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is: Depravity or corruption of morals; evil, immoral, or wicked habits or conduct; indulgence in degrading pleasures or practices.
And I guess if we go by this definition, I can’t say I do anything much that I need to hide. I might eat too many chocolate covered almonds or spend too much money on clothes and books or be judgmental in a way I shouldn’t be, but I don’t take much pleasure in low practices. I’m trying to quit gossiping! My flaws are many, however. I have some character traits I’d like to smooth out, but I’ve also hit a place in my life that somehow encourages self-inflicted grace instead of more self-inflicted wounds.
And on that note, I encourage you to give yourself a loving word or two. I hate to hear that you’re having an overwhelming and exhausting time and hope you’ve found some ways to relieve that since this writing—I know I’m way behind on these q&a missives. I hope caring for your mental health isn’t out of the question and you can find the support you need so you don’t feel like you have to dampen your feelings. Everyone deserves to be listened to. Try to get plenty rest and some exercise. I hope things get better soon.
Peace. Love.
Allison
Thank you so much Allison, for answering my question. You are so generous and kind!
I did not know the true meaning of the word vice until now, and it makes me feel a whole lot better now.
Life has improved in some ways now since I wrote you, and in some ways it is the same.
I am trying to find the space for rest and trying to allow health and nurturing to become priorities too.
Again, thank you for being here. X
