A question and also a confession.

Confession first:

I thought I owned all of your creative output yet in a recent Q&A you mentioned an EP (“Wish For You”) that you said had been “mostly missed by everyone”. I have to hold my hands up and confess that I had indeed missed it. I have no idea how that happened.

I’ve since tracked it down on Amazon and downloaded and – simply – those are amongst your very best songs, in my opinion.

So my question is – have you ever discovered great music by a favourite artist long after you thought you knew all of their back catalogue?

Or perhaps there’s a long-forgotten song that unexpectedly came back into your life?

Thank you for tracking down Wish For You. I agree that the work is right up there with my best — interestingly enough, I feel like I channeled those songs. They have John Henry’s spirit in them, and I think I’m at my highest vibration as an artist on them as I truly felt in service to those songs — I was a conduit, a receiver.

The answer to your question is YES! The first one that comes to mind is Red Headed Stranger, by Willie Nelson. For whatever reason, the Willie and Family Live album was the one that played the most after Wanted! The Outlaws. I’m not sure we even had a copy of Red Headed Stranger. I really got to know it in my early twenties, and it’s still among my desert island records.

This is one of the gifts of streaming, isn’t it — you can find everything an artist has done, or nearly everything. My seventh record, Mockingbird, isn’t on Spotify for instance. Don’t know why. I don’t own the master, so I have no control. But those platforms are a great resource. As a music journalist, it’s incredibly valuable to have access to just about anything in the palm of your hand.
