Hi Allison,
Before my question, let me say that I miss your SSS segment. Thankfully, some still show up in my Facebook memories!
The question: If you could only listen to one record, or only read one book, what would your choices be? Why?
Thanks,
Terry T
Dear Terry,
We really had some good times during those Sunday Soul Soothing Songs shows. You know, I was talking to one of my besties yesterday and we were going over how things are different now, such as how it’s okay to say you want to stay home and never leave the house. That would’ve been a slightly alarming statement to most ears pre-2020, but now? Now, everyone just admits their preference for their hermitage. And I think we can put that in the positive column. Not because I think it’s good to isolate (and seeking solitude is something entirely different), but because I think social pressure is real. We’re tired a lot. We mostly like the soft clothes. And now we know it’s okay to say so.
That’s all to say, it’s a real joy to have built such a wonderful community during that time. I’m so glad you enjoyed those mornings. If we hadn’t had the pandemic, I wonder if we’d be here now? Life twists on one line of broken silk in a spiderweb. Or one slip up in Wuhan.
On to your question. If I could only listen to one record or read only one book? Wow. That’s an interesting and difficult question. In my younger years, I would’ve answered quickly and definitively. That’s how younger me was — I always had an answer. Older and wiser me knows how few answers I really possess. Older and wiser me also knows that I like different things at different times. I’m steady in my artistic and creative center, and I mostly know what might speak to me in the world now as I know it, but another thing I like about older and wiser me is that my curiosity is increasing. I’m freer, more confident and therefore more flexible — in essence, I’m excited about the next new thing that’s going to knock my socks off. So I guess I can’t answer this one, Terry T. I’ll just end with a prayer that I will be guided in the right direction and that the path ahead holds as much beauty and inspiration and great records and books as the one behind me does. Something tells me it will.
I hope y’all have a fantastic weekend.
PEACE. LOVE.
Allison

Yes, some good things did come from the pandemic. Soft clothes and early bedtimes are at the top of the list for me. Your SSSS will always be one of the best memories from that time. I loved those Sundays and I felt like I belonged in your beautiful community. That was no small thing in those lonely days.
You, above all others out there, got me through the Pandemic. Forever indebted to you for every show and all your other prolific creativity during those darkest of times. Thank you. AM.
