Music Post: Gonna Get it Wrong

but it’s alright
41

I thought of this song this morning as I reflected on yesterday’s post. Sometimes I realize I’ve written the answer long before I ask the question. What a mysterious process living and making art out of it is. Maybe I was starting to work this out even ten years ago.

we don’t do this work so we can sit at home and feel good about ourselves

we do this work so we can use it when we need it.

There’s a reason why keep coming back is such an important phrase in 12-step programs — it’s because if you do something long enough, it’s bound to seep in somehow. Regression is natural with bursts of growth, right? That doesn’t mean the growth isn’t real. Things stabilize and integrate with practice. When I do recovery work in earnest, my thinking can’t remain the same. With every positive minute I put in my bucket of time, a negative one drips out, and I am able to see myself and the experience of life more clearly each time that happens.

Special thanks to the incomparable Tony Lane for writing this one with me. Y’all enjoy the view of my workroom and not-quite-dry crazy hair.

Take it easy on yourself today.

Lots of love,

AM
