I’ve figured out that being in process, in the state of creating, is where I find my flow. The space from idea to the realization of the idea is often so juicy, I like to prolong it so I don’t have to give up what can feel like simultaneous playing and channelling. I’ve never cared as much about what happened to a thing after it was done than while I was making the thing. That process is where I heal.
I spent the day in the recording studio today and had the time of my life. As I shared the other day, I have no record label to give these creations to, and Kenny and I are in the process of figuring that out, but for today, we made a song, and that’s enough. That is relevant and powerful, and I can’t wait to share it with y’all soon.
I’ve been working on this hamsa before dawn every morning this week, which has become my favorite time to paint. I’m intrigued by layers in watercolor, so I’m planning on trying some new things with this one. I want it to have the feeling of henna and I also want it to feel more weathered, older, more something. I’m allowing myself to be curious about what I can do, how I can develop my style as a novice painter, and am constantly letting myself off the hook of perfection. I’ll keep you posted. I’m working on a collection of bigger hamsas — when I get a good batch together I’ll post them in the shop. I’m also doing commissions, thanks to Sharon A., who ordered the first one a few weeks ago. She sent me an outline of her hand, which I then transferred to watercolor paper and made a vibrant piece which includes the colors that move her.
I wrote this down and have had it on my magnetic board for years now.
Same goes for us, I think. We have to keep ourselves watered to grow. I’m nothing but grateful that being in the state of creation is my water, and that I currently have enough to drink.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday.
Peace, Love, Springtime.
Allison
Thank you for sharing the update on your music and are. 🦋
I always smile and feel enlightened and enchanted when I read your posts. I like to step out of the room, find a quiet space and get absorbed.
Can I tell everyone how much I Love my Hamsa!!! My heart flip flops every time I see a photo of it. It should be arriving on my doorstep soon. Can’t wait! I love the Henna color you’re using on this new art piece. It does feel like it has history. I’m going to pick up my guitar after reading about your session today. Can’t wait to hear your song. Your voice is so rich and soulful.
